We welcome Ruby Lee to our family. She is 9lbs 2oz and looks just like her brother except with blue eyes
Ruby’s brother picked out her name from a hat. Because mom and dad are that indecisive

She’s perfect… congratulations
Congrats! Hope you are all snuggling well together.
Such a beautiful girl! Congratulations!!!
Ahhhhhh!!! As the fellow mother of a blue-eyed Ruby (which is a surprise, because mine are also brown, like yours), let me say CONGRATULATIONS!
I was kind of unsure about her name at first, but I get all kinds of great feedback about it. And I’m pretty sure it’s not just people trying to be nice, kwim? It’s a kickass name. Welcome to the world, Ruby!
It is a kickass name. And I am cloaked in internet semi-anonymity…I have a student by the name Ruby and she is not only sweet she is adorable as well.
GORGEOUS!! Hope you are feeling okay! Congrats to you and your family
Congrats! LOVE the name! In fact, my husband and I have said we would name our girl Ruby if that’s what we end up having. Such a sweet name!
Great name! She looks so serene. Like she is exactly where she is supposed to be
OMG, she is BEAUTIFUL! Congrats!!!!
Congratulations! She is beautiful and I absolutely love her name!
Perfect name, perfect baby! Congratulations!
So beautiful! Lovely name. Congratulations.
Congrats mama! She is absolutely perfect!
Beautiful girl! Congrats to you all! I love ruby but I have been DYING for months to know the “L” name that was a popular boys name!!!!
ME TOO.
Me 3, can you tell us now, just for curiosity’s sake?
I would assume the L-name was Lee.
I’m excited about the L-name. My brother’s name is Lee so I’ve always planned on using it as a middle name for one of my kids.
I was also guessing Leighton for her mystery L-name.
my bet is Liam. I have about twelve friends that have named their little boys Liam
I still think it’s Lane or Lincoln. Lincoln may be a bit out there but it fit her description lol.
My guess is Luca
Mine, too!
Lincoln
My guess for the “L” name is Logan…it can go both ways…and is what we named our son.
Wasn’t it confirmed to be Lincoln?
She said no to Logan before. I was thinking Lennon or Landyn
Congrats MODG, Mr. MODG, and G! Ruby is beautiful. And looking very zen, I must say
That is the prettiest newborn I’ve ever seen, my own skinny kid included. Congratulations! G picked the most perfect name for her. She’s a gem. (har har.)
Congratulations!!! She is BEAUTIFUL! I have been checking this blog and facebook like a mad woman waiting for the pics… so worth the wait! I’m beyond thrilled for you and your family. Welcome to the world Ms. Ruby Lee

She looks like a little doll! So precious. Congrats! I love the name, so cute.
Congrats!!! Love the name, enjoy this time as a new family of 4!
How are you doing, Amanda? The matter-of-fact tone you’ve been using makes me worry that you may not be feeling too well or are having a hard time.
Hopefully I just read too much into things though. I hope your C-section went as easy as possible. I hope that your recovery is as easy as possible. I hope that B-word PPD stays away from you this time. <3
Maybe she’s just tired? Or overwhelmed? Assuming she had a CS, she’s probably sore and stiff. Let’s keep positive thoughts going her way!
I remember many moons ago when I gave birth to my son, after being in labor all night, my mom came in and said,”Your hair is a mess!” Uhm, you think? Sorry, I was too busy pushing a boy out of my body to comb it!
I am sure that Brandy is coming from the best possible place — but I think you are right, no one wants to have their tone commented on the day after they give birth. (Or the thousands of days that follow:)
It sounds like MY mom was in labor all night:) Maybe a parenthesis would have served that comment better!
I thought I was being positive? lol
I only mentioned tone because it’s what caused me to worry. I was just hoping she isn’t feeling too badly about her C-section — I wouldn’t want that to cloud her experience. I know how it is. I told her all the positive things I hoped for her.
I wasn’t like, “God, why do you sound like that?!”
I’m going to go cry now because I’m a hormonal nutcase.
I don’t ever want to be the negative person. Because I know how upset I get when I see other comments that I feel are negative or not helpful. I feel terrible. That is really NOT how I meant it.
I just wanted her to know we were concerned about *her* and how she’s doing too, especially since we still don’t know anything about how things went for her (except for the healthy baby, which obviously = good). Okay I’m done. Seriously, screw these hormones.
Brandy,
I totally agree. In addition to welcoming a BEAUTIFUL baby girl – we want to make sure Mama is doing well, too! We have all been pulling for you, MODG. Just know that you have an amazing support system here no matter what you are feeling or thinking. Like Brandy said, hopefully everything is fantastic and that we are reading too far into it. But no matter what, it is a fact that you and B make some gorgeous babies!
P.s. Ruby Lee – are you kidding? Most amazing name ever!
Brandy, HUGS to you!~ I really did feel that your post was one of concern and love! Please don’t cry. I know it sucks to have comments misinterpreted, especially when they are so heartfelt.
Brandy, I think noticing MODG’s flat recitation of facts and lack of emotion in announcing her daughter’s birth, and expressing concern for her state of well-being, is FAR more worthwhile than 4823 comments about sparkle rainbows and unicorns.
Good friends notice when things aren’t right, and gently point it out. Kudos to you.
Thanks <3 I'm glad it came across at least somewhat how it was meant. I do see that I probably could've found a more gentle way to word it. No matter what anyone feels after a birth experience, those feelings are valid and important. It's an insanely emotional experience that can be good, bad and in between.. all at once. I know that after my not-very-good experience I was VERY up and down and I know I didn't always sound like I was "supposed" to sound. My husband even told me to stop it because "people are going to think you don't like being a mom."
I told him that I'm just tired and overwhelmed and I would think these people would understand that. But, again, I truly hope MODG had a better experience than she did with Gavin. The thought that she might not have hurts my heart. At any rate, I hope life is sparkly or getting more sparkly for you, MODG, and I hope we hear from you soon.

My grandmother was Ruby Lee! Congratulations!!
So happy that the birth is behind you. The memories of it will fade and you will have one beautiful baby picture to remember it by. That daughter of yours is precious and gorgeous and something tells me once the name Ruby Lee hits mommy blog world, its popularity will skyrocket. Congratulations to all of you! I think the fact that your son picked her name is a nice thing for him– makes him that much more of a “big boy” AND it is a great story to tell your children as they get older. You are going to have a beautiful life, Miss Ruby Lee. As our friend Andy would say, The Mazel of the day goes to… MODG! You did it:) Good job.
I was about 5 when my sister was born, and my parents let me pick her middle name. I have always loved that!

I had wanted to post on your other post but I couldn’t get my words right and I just ended up deleting it all. But for some reason I was going to say “Good luck with little Ruby” and then thought to myself “where the hell did that come from, she hasn’t even chosen a name yet!” so yeah. That’s crazy that her name is actually Ruby.
She is SO gorgeous, and I can’t wait until you write out her story. Take your time mama, enjoy her for now!
oh my! she is absolutely beautiful!!! i know i sound like a crazy person, but i just want to eat her up!
Love her name! There must have only been awesome ones in that hat. She’s beautiful.
Dude. First of all, holy cute and amazing and beautiful baby. One benefit of a CS is their little heads come out all perfect and round instead of conical and mushed and weird. And that face. OMG. Gorgeous girl. And blue eyes!!!!!! Perfect.
Also, I. LOVE. HER. NAME. Lovelovelovelovelove. Beautiful and classic and feminine without being frilly. Whether it was picked out of a hat or not, it’s awesome. Can’t wait to read about the adventures of Miss Ruby Lee.
CONGRATULATIONS to your entire beautiful family of FOUR! xoxoxoxoxo and hope you are doing well.

…and she is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
congrats to all <3
welcome to the world, ruby!
She is absolutely perfect. Just perfect.
Thinking of you in the days ahead. I had severe PPD after my 3rd child, but not after my 4th. Make sure to take care of you, and if you need to grieve your birth experience, do it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, even if you did end up with a beautiful, healthy girl.
Also. I hope you share the other name options you were considering!
Congratulations to your family, and I hope your recovery, physical, mental, and emotional, is speedy. What a beautiful baby girl.
Congratulations! Ruby is beautiful! I’m so happy for you and your lovely family. I only recently found your blog and love it. I am 35 weeks pregnant with my first child, and your sense of humor, openness, honesty and straightforward attitude have been refreshing, especially in the face of other glossy, “I’m so happy” blogs, books and outlets geared toward new moms. I have struggled with depression throughout my life, and while I LOVE my little daughter, who is due Christmas Day, this has been no different in pregnancy. It is so wonderful to hear that, though of course my life/circumstances are different from anyone else’s, I am not alone in this crazy, scary, joyous, incredible and ambivalent experience of motherhood.
xoxoxo
Beautiful! LOVE LOVE LOVE her name! Hope you’re all doing fabulous! Just out of curiosity, what were the other names in the hat??
Oh heyyyyyyyyyyy Ruby!!! Welcome to this crzy-ass world! A lot of people have been awaiting your arrival, you know lik all your mom’s super nosey internet friends
MODG~ Hope your delivery went better than expected and you’re recovering well with your cute little family. One perk to a c-section is a super perfect round (undamaged by the baby-chute) head, which it looks like she has! Can’t to read how it all went. Ruby doesn’t know what a lucky lady she is to have such a rad mommy!
p.s. not gonna lie, was kinda hoping to see a pink bandana on that head!
Congratulations!!! Such a sweet name! I wish you a super sparkle speedy recovery.
She is beautiful! Congratulations to your family and I hope you are feeling well! Britney sparkle hugs to you!
Gorgeous x

She is beautiful! So glad Yoshe made her appearance and got a name! Yay for Ruby!
Just. Beautiful!
Congratulations! Ruby is a gorgeous name, great job, mama. I want to just add that if you are holding that perfect healthy baby in your arms, and are still upset about how it all went down…don’t beat yourself up. I think a lot of well meaning people in your life may tell you something like, “See, now that she’s here and beautiful, doesn’t it matter less how she got here?” As someone who also ended up with an unwanted c-section after a very long labor….and who probably won’t have the chance to have a normal v-birth…..and also wasn’t able to breastfeed for longer than 10 days due to having complications and needing to start meds I wasn’t ok breastfeeding on…..I get it. I had a healthy baby after my birth…and I loved him to pieces, but was still sad about it. I have a healthy baby now, at 17 months old, despite having to give him the dreaded formula and missing out on that breastfeeding bond….and I’m still sad about it. Granted, the pain gets less over time, that’s how grief works. But it is a grieving process. I just want to say….give yourself some grace about it, if you are by chance, feeling sad. It’s ok. And it will get better.
Welcome Ruby!! She looks so peaceful, and I hope her mama is too. Speedy recovery to you, MODG, and hope to hear back from you very soon.
Blessings,
Claire
Welcome to the world, Ruby Lee!!!
Hello, Miss Ruby! You are beautiful!
Congrats to you, B and G! Oh, and the kitties. Can’t forget about them.
Congratulations!!!!! Cute little baby! Love the name. Good pick G
Hope you are doing well and healing well. Keeping you in my thoughts. Sending love to you all.
Perfect. Beautiful. Congrats to everyone!
Beautiful… congratulations. I love her name (that’s on my short list for my next one — if there’s one and if it’s a she)…. I’m sorry if things didn’t go exactly the way you wanted them to… but I guess I’m in the camp that feels like as long as you both are healthy… that is the most important thing. I have friends that lost babies at 9-months and in childbirth… so that is where my mind goes. You’re both here. I guess I am your polar opposite… when I was told my docs were recommending a c-section with #1 I was like, uh, ok, no problem (she was huge and they told me I could injure her or paralyze her arm if I tried pushing her out). In my 8th month I went to the hospital for high blood pressure and I was monitored for a few hours. While there I had asked my nurses about formulating a birth plan and they pretty much smiled and said, “we’ll take your wishes into consideration, but you never know what is going to happen during a birth.” Having a c-section doesn’t make you less of a woman or less of a mother. Best wishes for sleep in your near future =)
So happy for your family! May Ruby forever be a sparkle in your life! Has G kissed her yet? My heart melts when my son kisses my baby daughter on the forehead or spontaneously holds her hand! Congratulations!
Oh. My. Goodness. Look at her! She is so damn cute
G did a great job picking her name!
She is BEAUTIFUL! Congrats! Can’t wait till you are feeling well enough to tell us how you are doing.
)
Well, isn’t she a darling? Congratulations!
I keep scrolling back to look at her picture and I love her expression. She’s like “no pictures, please, I’m napping!” haha, I love it. She also looks completely perfect. Can you believe this was Yoshe?! The Yoshe wrecking havoc in there?! So crazy.

Congratulations! She and her name are so lovely. I realized 16 mos post C-section that one of the hardest things is feeling like I didn’t get a chance to be brave and strong like so many friends who have given birth vaginally. Your story has shown me otherwise. You have shown so much courage, strength, and selflessness.

Many many congrats on your new family member and her awesome name!
What a beautiful, perfect little girl. Congratulations to you and your gorgeous family. Love love
She is so adorable! Congrats to you all! I will be sending good vibes to you that you escape the PPD this time.
Hello Ruby, you are beautiful! MODG you make some adorable babies. I’m still so sorry you didn’t get the birth experience you had dreamed of but at 9+ lbs I can’t blame your Olsen for rebelling. I hope your recovery is much easier than last time. Love her name and especially how it was chosen.
Congrats to you, B and G on your precious new family member. You’re initials all spell BRAG. Purdy awesome if you ask me.
Welcome sweet girl ~ Amanda I am holding space for you and envisioning an easy birth and hoping that in this season of gratitude, you are able to look at this sweet, beautiful face, and find ONLY the good.
May Ruby know all that is good in this world, she has a wonderful Mama and a great big brother and Daddy to guide her.
Chin up, hottie. I hope that you get your turkey on ~ and I pray (with the like 2% of religious that I have) that Ruby used up all her dramaz at birth, and is a placid, colic free, intolerance free baby for you ~ an easy nurser and a good sleeper ~ babies like that really do help keep the blues away.
My 9’2 baby was my one who after an easy breezy VBAC caused my tiny body a 48 hour homebirth turned transfer turned CS ~ I know Vag’s can do it, but sometimes we tiny people just aren’t meant to have Goliath’s crawl their way out of our nether regions. I mourned like the fucking devil, while celebrating my baby. I know your pain, sister.
Good job, MODG. Way to walk your walk with grace and courage.
Congrats on that beautiful little peanut! She’s lucky to have you as her mom, and you’re lucky to have her join your family. I just wanted to say that I found your blog last night when I was desperately searching for ways to get my almost-5 month old to sleep longer than 28 minutes (you can set an alarm to it). I found your post, felt totally inspired, and laughed my ass off along the way. I found your blog at just the right time – exactly when I needed the help and dose of laughter. Keep up the good work, and enjoy that precious baby! Looking so forward to following you and your adventures!
Happy birthday Ruby! Beautiful name and baby girl. Congratulations!
Congrats!
She is the most peaceful looking baby, ever! I think your zen wore off on her. Also, she’s gorgeous! Seriously. I think my five-month-old is beautiful now, and I’m convinced she’s going to be model-worthy when she’s all grown up, but when she came out I was like “this poor, ugly child.” Not so for Ruby. She’s pretty from the get-go!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations! She’s beautiful! And she and I have the same birthday.
Congratulations! She is beautiful and I love her name!
Congratulations!!
And I love the name
Love love the name! Congratulations!
Congratulations, Amanda! Congrats to B and G too! I wish you a speedy recovery. Your daughter is absolutely beautiful and kind of looks Asian;).
I love the name. There’s a song with the name “Ruby” involved. So, she can use that as her signature song! She can find her name (I’m assuming) on all those knickknacks with names on them. Lee is a good middle name. I happen to share it but mine is spelled the “girl” way Leigh. Though truthfully, I’ve seen a few boys whose name was spelled like my middle name is.
Once again Congratulations.
Kami
Gorgeous!! Can’t wait to hear more about Ruby Lee, congratulations
xx
Congrats, MODG & fam! She is beautiful!
congratulations! she is so cute!!! can’t wait to hear the birth story. Hope you and B are doing well.
Yay! Congratulations! Love that you picked her name out of a hat
She looks very angelic and full of character, like someone drew her features! Congratulations and a speedy recovery to you!
Name from a hat – remember for next time (note to self).
Hi Amanda,
I have been reading your blog for a while now. Our sons went through the same allergy shenanigans at around the same time and I was pointed to your blog for co misery I guess. After reading about your depression you experienced with Baby G and how upset you are at not getting a chance to experience Baby R’s birth the way you wanted to I thought I’d pass this along.

It’s kind of a way to take action against not having more of a say in birth decisions. Mostly I was thinking about how you interviewed the surgeon and asked for some modifications so you could have something similar to kangaroo care.
Also I want to throw out there that you should consider a postpartum doula for your first three months with Ruby and Gavin. I know that you’ve “done this” before but it’s so much harder with a newborn wanting to nurse and a toddler wanting to be held. And those stupid “nursing baskets” work for maybe one feeding out of the ten in one day. I am sure you’d probably even be able to find a postpartum doula willing to donate her time. If you’re interested I can put the word out and help you find one in your area. (I am in California). Or you can ask your labor doula if she recommends someone.
Good luck and keep your head up.
Congrats! I’m so happy to read that you had a healthy baby girl! Hope you are doing wonderful:-)
He is beautiful, congrats girl!!!
She is gorgeous! congratulations
when you are feeling up to it I would love to hear how everything went with the c-section…i am only 12 weeks pregnant with baby #2 but apparently a c-section is in my future according to my previous OB…i now have a midwife but we will see what happens. any information about recovery etc would be great!
Many congrats! She’s gorgeous. Hope you have a speedy recovery and enjoy this time with your enlarged family.
Side note: this is the second time that during the same week you have a baby, I find out I’m knocked up. I think you are a bad influence on my nighttime activities.
Love it! Cute name and cutest baby! Blue eyes…can’t wait to see it!
Congrats! She is absolutely adorable!
Congratulations! She is gorgeous. Hope you are resting and healing.
Pure sweetness
Congrats! She’s beautiful!! Several of my friends are moms, and even though I don’t plan to have kids of my own, I am so glad you’ve shared your stories on your blog so that I can appreciate in a small way what the whole deal is. Congrats again
Congrats, Modg! She is beautiful! I hope when you are ready, you will choose to share some of your experience this time around. I’d really love to hear how it was the same/different for you. Also, I’m dying to know the L name that you were considering for Ruby! (Mostly because I enjoy hearing the names that people come up with!) Wishing you well!
I too am dying to hear how you all are doing… but you know, when you’re ready of course
Bated breath until then! And def, what was the L name??
OK, seriously… THAT is a gorgeous baby. And I don’t care what anyone says… not all babies are pretty. When I opened the picture of my nephew I actually gasped out loud and that was AFTER my sister warned me he was ugly (her words, not mine).
Well done!
Congratulations to you and hubby.
She has a lovely face and looks so serene in that photo – I hope that is a sign of her nature and sleeping habits!
I hope things are going well for you and your family of 4 (!) and that the chaos of those first few weeks goes as smoothly as possible.
xx
Congratulations!!!!! She is beautiful!!
Congratulations! I hope that all is going well and that your lack of follow-up posting is because of insane sleeplessness and general baby care and not because of PPD! Either way, your cyber friends are sending you lots of sparkly unicorn thoughts!
She is so perfect! And big! You did a great job growing her
It’s okay, my husband and I flipped a coin to pick our son’s name. No matter which name “chance” selects, it is always the right one. I can’t imagine Robbie’s name being anything else. It’s him.
She’s so pretty!! Congrats!
Awwww she’s amazing!! Congratulations! And I love how you picked the name! Too cute!
