Operation WANA

  • Sharebar

Operation WANA started here with this post. WANA know more about WANA? (see even charity can be hilarious). Operation WANA stands for WE ARE NOT ASSHOLES. Because honestly, we kind of were assholes. Things were getting snarky around here. And don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my fair share of snark. But we needed a change. And without knowing it, we got one. A big one.

One small private donation to a family turned into thousands of real people helping other people in need. People were sending other people cribs, grocery store gift cards, bikes for their kids, clothing for their babies on the way and even donations to help out sick pets and dying cars. The outpouring of generosity amongst our little community of blog readers was totally incredible. And the success behind it is very simple: personal interaction. Just one person helping another person. Nothing fancy about it. No donate to a mystery fund. Just someone posting how they could use some help and another person realizing that they could very easily help.

And I briefly created a forum and that didn’t really work out technically and it took a bit of the personal feel away I think. So I want to keep things old school and use this post as a comment forum for those in need and those able to help. It will be tough to read through so it’s very important that at the top of your post you write

**IN NEED** if you need help

If you can help, please reply to that post by clicking “reply”

If you have something general to offer, please type **TO GIVE** at the top of your post.

In the comment form, please include your email address. I am the only one who will see it unless you type it directly into your comment.

Please keep giving and keep asking for help. It’s rough out there. The world needs less assholes.

**please send your success stories and pictures of happy kids to modgblog at gmail dot com**

**IN NEED** (Reposting because I accidentally put “I need”)
I feel kind of bad asking for this, but I am an unemployed college student, and I owe my school $800 by January 8th.

I’ve applied for jobs everywhere, multiple times. (Friggin Wal-mart and McDonalds won’t even hire me, wtf?) There was even an article in the school newspaper about how hard it is for students to get jobs here. I’m living off $175/month, my dad’s child support payments, but they may run out soon. I’ve asked my mom for help so many times, but she’s in a tight financial state too, having went back to college herself, not to mention the fact that we aren’t a wealthy family as it is. Plus my mom’s boyfriend is currently fighting testicular cancer, so she’s got his hospital bills to worry about too.

I’m making payments when I can, but I have so many other things I need to pay for too (gas, car maintenance, doctor’s visits). If I don’t make the payments in time, they’ll suspend my account, so I can’t register for housing next year. I’m not by any means asking for all of the money I owe. Any little bit would help. I understand many, many other people need things more important than I do, so if no one can help me, I understand.

Jamie, did you get some assistance? If not I can’t send $$ but can send a gift card that might help!

Just email me at happyhelpak@gmail.com

Emily December 12, 2011 at 3:35 pm

To Give: Cloth wipes handmade by me. I already have some made to send out. I just don’t have much money for shipping. I think I could afford $5 in shipping. Please email elevated_threads (at) yahoo (dot) com for information.
Cloth wipes are a great alternative to disposable wipes because they can be reused over and over. Just toss in the washer and dryer like any old towel.

Alison December 14, 2011 at 4:24 pm

Emily- if no one takes you up on this, I have a friend who CDs but has never used cloth wipes and her son has a HORRIBLE yeast rash now and she thinks the wipes she was using were partly to blame. She doesn’t have the resources to get cloth wipes of her own, so this could be an incredible blessing for her! I’d be happy to ship it to her!!! please send me an email if no one else needs them.

Gretchen December 16, 2011 at 10:03 am

For your friends baby w the yeast infection rash, she can use store brand athletes foot medicine, she will see a difference very quickly.

Darlene N December 17, 2011 at 9:08 am

Try a tube of Zinc. it’s a white paste and does a really good job too.

Emily G December 20, 2011 at 1:30 am

Alison, email me at elevated_threads@yahoo.com. I have a few dozen to send to her if you’ll spring for shipping.

**IN NEED**

I am asking on behalf of my best friend. She is due with her first baby in January. Her husband lost his job earlier this year and decided to join the army. Now they are trying to make things work financially but they are struggling.

My heart hurts for her and her husband. They are wonderful people, and they have been forced into this hard position.

Her pregnancy is causing some health issues, and I have encouraged her to try to take some time off work before she has the baby, but she says that she can’t afford to take even a half day off. She also can not afford to take a full maternity leave and will have to go back to work. She is going to need a breast pump. I threw her a shower, and while she got some nice things, she did not receive a breast pump and right now it is too much of a financial burden for her to bear. I offered her my Medela pump in style, but sharing pumps is not recommended and she is going the ‘better safe than sorry’ route.

I know that it would be a weight lifted off her shoulders if she received a breast pump, and I feel like it would help her stress level at the end of her pregnancy, especially.

Thank you so much for considering this, and thank you MODG blog for the opportunity!
My email is halcyon.halo@gmail.com

Katherine December 12, 2011 at 4:24 pm

Does she have health insurance? My insurance paid for mine in full! I didn’t even have to fill out any paperwork. She just needs to get a prescription for a breast pump from her doctor (they will write it for engorgement or something like that) then she takes the prescription with her insurance card to a place that distributes them (hospital, lactation consultant, etc) and they file the paperwork for her.

Jamie S. December 13, 2011 at 3:59 am

I will definitely encourage her to ask her insurance provider about this. I know that mine did not cover it, but hers may. Thank you for the suggestion!

Morgan December 12, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Breast pumps can be shared but the tubing cannot… you can get a new set of tubes and accessories for about $45. Just wanted to share that one little thought in case it helps.

Jamie S. December 13, 2011 at 4:06 am

I thought we could just replace the tubing as well, but apparently milk can get inside the pump and mold because it is not a closed system. I’d link to the blog mom that opened hers up and found mold after she heard the same thing, but I’m on my phone right now. I wish we could just replace the tubing, but I don’t blame her for being cautious.

Chrissy December 16, 2011 at 11:59 am

that actually depends on the pump. check the manufacturer. if they qualify for WIC (and it doesn’t take much and it sounds like they do) they will qualify for a pump.

Cat December 12, 2011 at 8:23 pm

I have a pump with new tubing that I didn’t use with my last pregnancy. If you email me her address, I can mail it to her. Can’t seem to sell it and would love for someone to have it. im(dot)incognito(at)gmail(dot)com

Jamie S. December 13, 2011 at 4:10 am

Is the pump itself unused, or just the tubing? Either way that is very generous of you! I know that she would only feel comfortable using it if the pump was unused. I’ll email you in case you don’t see this. Thank you!

Katie December 13, 2011 at 6:25 pm

When I gave birth my hospital gave me a manual pump. Also, if she joins WIC (Women, Infants and Children) they may be able to give her a pump. This is from their website: “Breastfeeding mothers can receive breast pumps, breast shells or nursing supplementers to help support the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding.” Just a thought! Hope you are able to help her. :-)

Jen December 16, 2011 at 4:06 pm

Jamie, just a note: you can also use a product like this to sterilize the tubing:

http://www.amazon.com/Medela-Quick-Clean-Micro-Steam-Bags/dp/B000096QQ5

Jen December 16, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Jamie, you can also use a product like this to sterilize the tubing. You can use each bag up to 20 or 25 times (can’t remember which it is):

http://www.amazon.com/Medela-Quick-Clean-Micro-Steam-Bags/dp/B000096QQ5

Dana December 19, 2011 at 12:24 pm

Does she qualify for WIC?
WIC will provide breast pumps as well as other food staples to breastfeeding mothers

Cyn December 20, 2011 at 2:46 pm

I’m an army wife. When I had my son, I was too far away from a military post to use military hospitals. So the hospital I went to gave me a pump and billed it to my insurance (tricare – the military insurance). It went through and I never had to pay for it.

She should ask her doctors about this as an option.

**IN NEED**

I am asking of behalf of a very close friend! To make a long story short, she had a perfectly normal pregnancy until her first ultrasound where they found that her little girl had kidneys the size of a normal babies stomach and had a 20% of surviving. Her little girl came 4 weeks early and made it through! Since then she has had several surgeries and has no kidneys and is waiting for a transplant at the age of 2. This family is one of the toughest families I know and has been through so much and I couldn’t think of anything better than to “surprise” her and the family with a little assistance. She can no longer work as her daughter requires 100% care at all times, including feeding tubes and round the clock medication, they travel back and forth to our closest children’s hospital over an hour away weekly. If anyone can help with GC’s, little girls size 6-18 clothes, she varies in clothes size since she has to wear tubes, shoes, or just anything special to brighten this holiday for the family that would be WONDERFUL! God bless! And MERRY CHRISTMAS!

You can reach me at joelster87@gmail.com

***TO GIVE***
I have a can of regular similac advance and some 4oz packets I can mail out as well as little boys socks, shoes, sleepers and clothes size 6mo.

I’m having a hard time navigating this page. ;( I never seem able to find the forums.

apankratz December 12, 2011 at 6:10 pm

From what I can tell, Stressedmamaof2, this list is taking the forum’s place?

KateP December 12, 2011 at 11:50 pm

apankratz is right – as MODG explains in the post above, this page is replacing the forums. She explains how to post a need help/offering help and other info. :)

*TO GIVE* Well, I have been helped tremendously by folks from this website and while I don’t have much I’d like to extend the offer of some books, romance-type and about a dozen or so. It’s not as much as what was given to me but it’s what I have right now. I hope to do more in the future when we get back on our feet.

BabyGsMommy December 12, 2011 at 10:44 pm

***TO GIVE***
We have a high drama baby that when switched from Enfamil to generic brand formula decided not to sleep for three days. She has a high drama Momma who NEEDS the normal 10 hours she was used to (it’s a real thing – Ashley Judd has it) and we promptly switched her back. Really it was probably a growth spurt but who can take that chance. So I have a ginormous tin of perfectly good formula, generic brand from Target less a couple of 6oz bottles. I know lots of you that frequent this site prefer breast feeding, but if anyone needs it I’m happy to send it with a care package of other fun things for a baby boy or girl. I hate to throw it away but it’s hard to find an organization that will take something that has been opened.

**IN NEED** I’ve been asked to repost here.

LONG story even shorter: I haven’t been able to work since 2001. I do not get any disability or social security. In 2009 my husband lost his job and although he did go through a 2 year program for college, and graduated recently, he is having difficulty finding a job. Times are getting tighter and tighter. We are not EVEN making it paycheck to paycheck (every two weeks). Currently we are behind on ALL our bills. We have to borrow gas money before each paycheck and then have to pay it back once we do get a paycheck and it keeps making us further and further behind. We’re always coming up short on food and could use help there too. I’m in need of diabetic medication. I’ve been without what I need for about a month. And finally, with Christmas coming up we really don’t have anything to spare to get our daughters (age 3, will be 4 ON Christmas, and age 15) anything. Currently our t.v is just about ready to choke too and it’s very hard to watch. We don’t allow ourselves any luxury except dial up internet (which my oldest daughter uses a lot for school). The only cell phones we have are Tracfones which are prepaid and we don’t always have minutes on them, like now.

Bottom line: A list of things we need, could use, are;

$40 so I can get my diabetic medication (for a 3 month supply), Grocery gift cards (preferably from either Walmart, Meijer, or Save-A-Lot), Gas cards, Any other gift cards we could use toward purchasing Christmas gifts, and Tracfone minutes cards. Monetary help would also be fantastic so I can pay on past due bills. Any help would be appreciated.

I fully intend to pay it forward once things get turned around for us and help others that are posting here as well. I’m just not in a position to help at the moment and it breaks my heart. God bless to you all and thank you very much. Merry Christmas.

***IN NEED***

I am a mother of a beautiful 11 month old boy. The same day I found out I was pregnant, I was told my mother was sick, and spent all of my pregnancy taking care of her. In June 2010 she was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. Because my parents worked their whole life and saved as much as possible, they have too much money in bank accouts to recieve ANY help, and she didn’t have insurance. So since then I have been watching my mother not only fight a life threatening disease, but also worry about finances, which is something no one should have to do in that situation imo. She’s still fighting, and seems to be doing okay, but the stress is insurmountable. Also, in March of this year, my husband became suicidal, and has since been dignosed with Schizophrenia, severe depression, and severe anxiety. He cannot leave the house at the moment. And because of how his issues started, his therapist thinks it best if I don’t get a job. SO, I cant leave our son with him to find a job, he can’t yet find one himself, and he doesn’t qualify for disability. We have had to resort to having my mother assist, which just makes me feel like a big fat asshole. We’ve been tearing apart an old trailer and selling the metal from it to hold us over in the meantime as much as possible. My car decided while preggo was a good time to die, and so did most things in my house. I have lots of financial aid for food for everyone in the house, and have started couponing like crazy to make everything stretch. We’ve now sold all the metal we have, and have no idea where or how we are going to do anything else from this point. I have scaled back all of our bills, turned everything off, and luckily we live in a house my grandmother and grandfather built, so no rent. My parents are the two most amazing people, and I have never been more depressed, watching them lose everything, and knowing I’m helping that along. My husband just started a new medicine, that we are hoping will make him feel good enough to leave the house, but these things take 6-8 weeks to work. I’m leaving out A LOT here, but this is enough I think to explain. The best things I have in my life is the support from my husband, mother and father, and the beautiful little giggle and smile of my little boy. I could not make myself wake up in the morning without them. Anything anyone could give, in any form, would be greatly appreciated. Merry christmas and god bless.

coldhouse December 13, 2011 at 10:38 am

IN NEED
We have a cold old house and struggle EVERY winter heating it. The gas bill gets so high, and then we have to use electric heaters for the areas where there are no vents (ie our bedroom) We have even taken to all (me, hubs, and 3 toddlers) sleeping in the family room to close off the rest of the house. Our utilities have been shut off twice because we have not been able to pay the full amount.
So, we have acquired a wood-burning stove to help/heat our home. Hubs and I have sanded it, and are ready to install, however the chimney/vent system is out of reach for us financially right now. We make ends touch each month, but no more. Christmas gifts for our children are sparse but they will be provided for. We could use some help with the stove installation. My hubster can do it, but paying for the materials is what is hard. We have found it to be close to 500.00 if we buy materials from our local home improvement store. We are not lazy. I work two jobs, and attend school full time, and The husband works full time as well. We just are not making enough to fill in the gaps, and I can not live anymore feeling the panic I feel when I see a utility truck come down our street.

Katie December 13, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Sorry I cannot assist monetarily at this time, as I too am an In Need Momma getting helped by some fabulous people from this site. However, I do have a suggestion…contact your utility company and see if they have a low income energy assistance program. Also, not sure if you are a church goer or not, but there are some churches that may be able to help your family out monetarily. Ooh, just thought of this…Have you applied for a grant for school? Just a reminder: Please write your email in your reply so that those that may be able to help you can contact you directly. I know that panic you speak of, so I hope that you are able to install the stove soon. Take care!

**In Need**

Realistically I don’t even know how anyone could possibly help me. Plus I feel really embarrassed for even posting here. But then I think …”hey, maybe, just maybe…it could work somehow”. So here’s my story. I am 49 years old and work very hard. Haven’t been making much money with the economy taking a dive, but maintaining while struggling. Then, over the past couple of months everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, just kinda fell apart. First my van (that I had just finished paying off to the tune of $8000) broke down. And by broke down I mean the engine completely seized up and it would have been $5000 to fix it. Which I couldn’t afford. After towing and diagnostics and storage fees I could only turn my title over to not owe anything else. I couldn’t find a vehicle because I have to be able to make (small-ish) payments and nobody wants to take payments (not even large ones) because everybody needs money. My credit is totally shot so I can’t get a loan. I tried borrowing vehicles, but that only worked for a few days. So I started hitchhiking 30 miles (one way) every day to at least be able to work. I finally was able to borrow a vehicle, but the person needs it back after the first of the year and I’ll be back to hitchhiking (in the snow). I don’t have money for a down payment or even a couple of grand for a beater to get me around. Then I lost my wallet with $300 in it .. which I was getting propane with. My house thermostat is set at 53 degrees so that I won’t use very much (it’s currently snowing and freezing) and I only have enough for a couple of weeks. A minimum fill will cost me around $300. Which I don’t have. And I can’t get assistance through any programs because I make too much (according to them, but I can’t pay my bills, so it’s really not enough, let alone too much). I do volunteer work in my free time for victims of traumatic events, and I wish I could help on here. Instead, I’m the one needing help. I have one granddaughter who just turned one year old and I wasn’t able to get her anything for her Birthday, nor will I be able to get her anything for Christmas. I have a shut-off notice for my electricity. It seems no matter how much I keep plugging along, right now I just can’t get ahead. So that’s where I am. Anyone think they can help in any way??? I hate to even ask, but I am at the end of my rope. Thanks for taking the time to read my tale of woe. Andrea

cyn December 20, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Hi Andrea,

I know you’re asking for money, but that is always difficult to give. Would gift cards to wal-mart or target or a grocery store help by easing your needs for food so you have money to spend on a vehicle? If you can give an idea of stores that it might help to send gift cards for, maybe we can send a few of those your way.

Also, if you have a shut off notice for your electricity, consider contacting your state. I know in MN we have state funds that pay to keep electricity/heat on so that no one freezes to death. Generally you submit your electric/heating bill and proof you can’t pay it, and they pay it off for you. Just a thought.

mari December 14, 2011 at 12:40 pm

***In Need***
So I was referred to this site/ campaign by a friend and first let me say that mamas helping out other mamas is an awesome idea.
My back story…
My husband and I are 25 and have lived paycheck to paycheck from the very beginning. We budget tightly and still have trouble making it through to the end of the month some times. So needless to say an unexpected baby threw us through a loop. We have tired to ready ourselves for our little boy (due in Feb) by buying used, using craigslist, and going to consignment stores. We unfortunately have no family support either. Within a year of my meeting him my husband sadly lost his older sister to cancer who was his last remaining relative, all others had passed away in his childhood. My small family lives across the country but my mother has been unemployed for a long time and is being supported by my older sister and my other sister is expecting her own baby next year. We don’t have anyone to turn to for even a small baby shower.
We thought we would scrimp and save through this tough period ourselves until I was admitted unexpectantly into the hospital last week for pre-eclampsia that came out of no where. My doctor immediately put me on very strict bedrest ( I am also a type1 diabetic) and so I have basically lost my job with no warning. I am scared to death to have no income, my husband’s pay will not cover our rent, car payment, insurance, and my medical bills let alone anything for the baby. I am terrified that my son will have to be taken early now too, I am only almost 30weeks =(
So that all being said I am not too proud to beg. This is where I could use some help if anyone is in a position that they can….
Any advice from people who have lost their job during pregnancy on where to turn to for financial help? (I am technicially on a leave of abscense so I was told no unemployment)

If any one has newborn or premie sized boy clothing? I have no idea how long I will be able to keep my pregnancy going but I am having nightmares that I will have to deliver in the next few weeks.

Any used small necessities that you need to bring home baby. I have a crib, infant carseat, and a small assortment of clothes. Anything else is still on my to do list like diapers, blankets, etc.

Gift cards to places we can get our basic needs met such as a grocery store or CVS (so I can pick up my diabetic medications).

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a happy holiday season with their family.

-Mari (inlikesinkt@aol.com)

Alexina Azotea December 14, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Mari..if you read up on this page..there is a posting by a woman named Shannon who has baby boy clothes to give away from Newborn to 9 months old. Best of luck to you

Julie December 14, 2011 at 3:11 pm

Hey sweetie,

Just to let you know, I had my little girl at 30 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, so I know exactly how scared you must be feeling. She’s now just over seven months old (nearly five months corrected age) and is doing great.
I’m in the UK, so can’t compare the medical care, but take a look at the March of Dimes site which has lots of information. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that baby stays put until term x

mari December 14, 2011 at 4:24 pm

I have only met with my doctor once since my diagnosis so I don’t have a lot of information as to what I can expect yet. I am pretty afraid that because of my other complications (diabetes/ high blood pressure) that they will want to induce labor in the next few weeks.
Can you tell me how long your baby girl had to stay in the NICU? How big was she when she was born?
Right now my little guy is measuring big at 4lbs accroding to the growth ultra sound but the doctor says even though he is measuring ahead he still has the lungs and other organ development of a 29week old.
Any way to prolong the time you can carry your baby once you develop pre-e?

Julie December 14, 2011 at 6:13 pm

Firstly, relax. The only cure for pre-eclampsia is to not be pregnant. The doctors will monitor you as at this stage every single day baby stays but will make big difference. There may come a point when baby is safer outsde than inside, but there isn’t anything you can do now, so rest up and know you are doing the best thing you can.
My little girl was 1150g (nearly 2lbs9 9oz) and needed a ventilator for a week. We spent two weeks in NICU before graduating to special care. She came home after nine weeks and is now exclusively breastfed and is on track for her corrected age, just really small.
Your little guy will need to master three thing before he comes home:
1) breathing – the longer he stays in, the more likely he’ll be able to do this himself. Many 30 weekers can breathe on their own, but many need a bit of help.
2)maintaining body temp – at 4lbs he’ll probably be put in an incubator to allow him to use his energy to grow rather than keep warm, but he won’t be far off an open cot which makes it easier to cuddle him.
3) feeding – the suckle reflex doesn’t appear until 32 – 34 weeks so he will no doubt be tube fed. The advantage of tube feeding is that it takes no energy to feed so they can use every calorie of food to grow. My little girl could suckle at 32 weeks, but I have met other babies who had no idea until 36 weeks, so you just have to be patient until he learns what to do.
Hope this helps, but if you want to chat more my email is Julie.Kelly@gmail.com
Being a preemie mum is tough at times, but baby won’t remember and you will be privileged to see your baby grow in a way term mums can’t. Hugs x

I am litterally reading with tears in my eyes.
I had felt better just confiding some of my fears and worries but to have you ladies respond with support made me lose it.

Brandy December 14, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Hi Mari,
I’m so sorry for your struggles. It’s hard enough being pregnant for the first time let alone having complications and money struggles. Were you laid off of your job because you were admitted into the hospital or did you have to take the leave of absense because you were put on bed rest? When I was pregnant with my first child I was laid off two weeks before starting maternity leave. At the time I didn’t know that I could have sued my employer and probably received some sort of compensation, but at the least I was able to for file for disability. I was able to collect disability for the time that I would have normally been on maternity leave and then I was able to file and collect unemployment until I found a job six months later. I’m not sure if the laws vary by state or not, but it seems that if it’s doctors orders that you have to be on bed rest, you should be able to qualify for disability. I’m not sure what state you live in, but I’d be happy to help you research your options. I’m unfortunately not in a position where I can help monetarily and my “baby” is 9…and a girl…so I don’t have much baby stuff to pass on. But, I know that all of us on here can totally relate to being pregnant and scared and I’m happy to lend an ear if you need one. :) You can email me at bgreene_74(at)yahoo(dot)com.

mari December 14, 2011 at 7:37 pm

Thanks Brandy =)
I am not technically laid off. I was told by my doctor that they only way I could go home from the hospital was if I went directly onto strict bedrest with only bathroom privledges. When I gave this information to my manager (I work for a large retail pharmacy) I was told my only option was to take a medical leave of absence for which I am not compensated for at all. Ive been using my personal leave time to help cover all my doctors appts, seeing my high risk specialist every 2 weeks and my endo doctor every other week since I was only 7weeks along. I have nothing left, my work doesn’t offer any disability benefits, and as far as I can figure out VA where I live doesn’t offer any support either. As of right now I don’t know what we are going to do and I am feeling pretty hopeless sitting around all day. Not just the stress of figuring things out financially but I can bearly think of what may lay ahead for my son if these complications continue to get worse.

Cat December 15, 2011 at 12:03 am

Lynn December 14, 2011 at 1:29 pm

*In Need*

I am a single mom to an almost 7 year old son. I am currently pregnant with a little girl. I am due January 24th. My son is the most important thing/ person to me and I am terrified that I will not be able to take care of him if I do not find help. My son’s father is supposed to be paying child support but he never does. If he did that would help me out a lot. He got into drugs right after I had my son and basically turned into a different person. He is currently in jail for breaking his no contact with me, breaking into my apartment, stealing my checkbook and writing out checks. He is/was very abusive so I broke up with him and kicked him out. He did not like that so he “taught” me a lesson so now I am pregnant. I do not believe in abortion and it was not the baby’s fault so I will be keeping my baby. I will be getting my tubes tied when I have her.

I receive financial aid for going to college. I also used to work through a work study program for extra money towards bills and such. More on why I am not working right now a little later. I am running out of my financial aid. I, like everyone else, have bills to pay and I am really nervous that I will not be able to pay them. I am feeling rather desperate. I normally can get my financial aid to stretch a lot longer because I am normally also working but with the increase in prices of basically everything, and bills that I wasn’t expecting I can’t this time.

I have Placenta Previa and Gestational Diabetes. I am also on restrictions. I am not allowed to lift more than 10lbs, no exercise, no repeated bending over, no extended standing on my feet and no working until I have my baby. If the placenta does not move by the 27th of December the doctors will be scheduling a c-section. I am very scared of having a c-section because I have never had one before. I have heard some crazy horror stories about C-sections. I was told that I need to rest and work on healing after the surgery so that means I can’t just have her and find work right away. Everything I have read/seen so far says to take it easy for the first 6-8 weeks ( and that is if everything heals right away) I also have no one to help me after the baby comes. ( I have read that anyone having a c-section will need help afterwards) I have heard that there will be restrictions after the c-section including no lifting anything over the weight of the baby for the first 6-8 weeks. No climbing stairs( I live upstairs) I do not have a washer and dryer(more hauling stuff up and down the stairs to go to the laundromat to wash my clothes) Also going grocery shopping might be hard because I would have to haul the groceries upstairs once I get home.

My son’s birthday is also the end of January (yes, I know May seems to be the month I get pregnant) I am scared that I will be unable to do a birthday party for him because of lack of money. I also need to continually buy diapers and wipes for the baby once she gets here. Babies are expensive, I know this because I went through this whole process already but she is my baby and I love her already. The first time she moved and I saw her on an ultrasound machine I was hooked. I am also planning on breastfeeding so that will help a bit with expenses. I will do anything in my power to take care of my children.

I am asking for gift cards to for any of the stores around me, Walmart, Shopko, Target. With the gift cards I can buy something for my son for his birthday and buy diapers and wipes.

Thank you for reading this. Any help is appreciated.

**In Need**

Due to a change in jobs for my husband we are under extreme finanical distress. I am due Feb 1st and do not have a car seat for the baby that meets safety guidelines. I also don’t have a pack and play so she has somewhere to sleep.

If there is anyone out there that can help you have no idea how much it would be appreciated.

Amanda B. December 14, 2011 at 3:13 pm

Dana – I’m not sure where you live, but oftentimes the hospitals or birthing centers around my area will give free car seats to those that don’t have them. I would suggest calling around at hospitals in your area to check. If they don’t give them away free many will have resources about places that do. Hopefully that helps! I’m sorry I’m not in a position to buy either a car seat or pack and play for you this year, but just thought I’d pass along the advice.

momof1 December 14, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Dana – you can also try the Highway Patrol in your state or local fire station and/or police station. Sometimes they have extra infant seats to give away and they usually will install them for you. I hope this helps. I wish I could do more than give advice – my son (only child) is 13 so anything I did have is long gone or the safety of it is expired.

Julie December 14, 2011 at 5:05 pm

My little girl was born weighing 1150kg (about nearly 2lb 9oz), she stopped growing at around 26 weeks. I had two steroid injections before delivery and when she was born she needed assistance breathing. She went between a ventilator and CPAP (another type of assisted breathing) for a week and then could breathe on her own.
There are three key things babies have to learn:
1) How to breathe – if he comes out breathing by himself this is fantastic
2) How to feed – he wont be able to suckle until 32-34 weeks gestational age, so he will be tube fed initially.
3) How to maintain body temperature – 4lbs is a good weight, but he’ll be in an incubator to keep him warm so that he can use all of his energy to grow rather than trying to keep warm.
For my little girl, she got the hang of the breathing quickly and we graduated from NICU into the special care unit in two weeks. Unfortunately because she was so small and she developed reflux she struggled to put on weight, which meant she didn’t have enough body fat to keep warm or strength to feed all by herself. It took her nine weeks, but in that time her life in hospital was pretty boring, just a case of feeding and growing. She left hospital taking expressed breast milk from bottles, and two weeks after coming home was exclusively breast fed.
At the stage you are at, every single day your baby stays inside will make a difference, but there may come a point when baby is safer outside, than he is inside. The doctors will make that call, in the meantime, you need to rest. The only cure for pre-eclampsia is to not be pregnant anymore, there is nothing else you can do.
And one last thing, preemies are all different. There’s a real chance he’ll have a bumpy start to life, but he wont remember it and a few months down the line he’ll just be another little boy (although he’ll mean the world to you). Just remember “this too will pass”.
Hugs, it’s a traumatic time, but you can and you will get through this x
My email is julie.kelly@gmail.com if you want to chat more x

~IN NEED~
~Repost from other board~

My husband and I have a 6 month old son who has outgrown his infant seat. We had been saving money to buy him a convertible one for Christmas but due to unseen things, we had to use all the savings for bills. So now we have nothing in savings and our son is too big to be in his carrier safely. Im sitting here crying because I just dont know what to do anymore. I feel like the biggest failure and I just want to give up! I hope there is an angel looking out for us tonight.

PatriciaCurry December 16, 2011 at 6:24 am

Although I cannot help with anything myself right now, I can at least offer my knowledge. Check with your local health department. They will have many resources that you can check out and should be able to get what you need. You are not a failure. Don’t be so hard on yourself. People need each other and that’s why we are all here on this site. Good luck and God Bless.

In Need: My local Mother’s group posted this to our Big Tent Group yesterday. My heart is breaking for this child & I do not fit the donor description. In there is anyone who can help, all of the info you need is here…

We need your help. Last week Kyle Crawford, a four year old boy at Serendipity Preschool in San Mateo, CA (near San Francisco) was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. He is now hospitalized at Stanford’s Lucille Packard fighting for his life. This is happening so fast, but he and his family are desperate to find a bone marrow donor. If they don’t find a match in the near future, Kyle will die.

The would-be-donor MUST BE half Chinese and half Caucasian. Those participating in the test will have a swab of saliva taken by medical professionals to determine compatibility with Kyle’s genetic makeup.

Serendipity School (his pre-school) will make a to-be-determined financial contribution for the testing or other medical fees. Kyle’s parents have offered to absorb the balance, if any, of the $50 per applicant processing fee.

If you know anybody that might be interested, please contact the director of Serendipity. Her name is Patrice Warto and her e-mail address is: patricewarto@gmail.com

As parents in our community, if there has ever been a time to come together and help salve the life of little boy, now is that time. With a heavy heart, please help spread the word to finding a potential donor for Kyle.

I believe in the power of our mother’s club.
Thanks!

Fiona December 16, 2011 at 11:56 am

Just re-posted this through my mother’s club and on my Facebook page….

Leslie December 16, 2011 at 2:22 pm

I don’t match the profile you are asking for but I am a registered donor with bethematch.org. They are a national bone marrow registry. Maybe they have someone?

IN NEED**
I hate having to put this anywhere. my story, when my daughter was just four months old, my house was foreclosed on then two weeks later I was laid off. I wasn’t able to find another job for some time. So I decided to go to school full time. The military helped me with that but I still owe about $35k. Right before graduation (sep 11) I found a part time job after three years of looking and applying every where.
I had saved up enough money to get out on my own out of my parents place. I was dumb and didn’t remember just how much first bills were. With paying all the bills I depleted all of my savings.
I had to take off a day from work for court (custody) as well as having a day when my daughter was sick, that has put me behind. Now I found out that my hours have been cut next week. I will not be able to make rent on the first much less get anything for my daughter for Christmas. I am worried more about the rent than I am the gifts. I can make those up at a later time. All she really wants is a solid black fluffy kitten lol. She was born on Halloween.
I have placed my kitchen table, a psp game system, as well as services like photography and babysitting on craigs list. So far nothing on there. I have also looked into selling some of the things I got while I was in the middle east for the military. It was enough to get a tank of gas to get to and from work.

I don’t know what to do any more and I can’t wait till the last minute. I am going to be short about $700.
If anyone could help I am more than willing to help someone else in need when I am able to back on top.
Please and Thank you for reading.

*in need of encouragement*

i feel weird doing this and totally making myself transparent, which sometimes leads to sucky things online but.. whatever.

i seem to be surrounded by every woman in the world who had no trouble at all conceiving. like, people who conceived trying NOT to get pregnant. and i know it’s crazy and hasn’t been THAT long, but my husband and i have been trying for 5 months. my period is totally out of whack. every month it’s like a surprise when it arrives. it’s been as long as 45 days and as short as 21 days.. it’s madness. so i never know when i’m ovulating and i am not sure about these ovulation predictors… i mean, are they a waste of money? do they help? i don’t know…

either way, it’s been a long time in my mind. am i crazy? is this not very long to be trying? i’m just not sure! my friends were all pregnant without even trying so i have nothing to compare it to. i always think i could be pregnant or i could have symptoms, then my period comes.. it’s so sad and frustrating. and forget pregnancy tests, i am terrified of them now.

is there anybody else out there who didn’t get pregnant just talking about it? is 5 months not very long to be trying? do i see a doctor? how do you deal with the disappointment each month? i could really use some encouragement as we’re going through this.

i love this idea. this is an awesome thing going on here.

Rhiannon December 15, 2011 at 2:15 pm

5 months is not long at all, and if it was just that I would not even worry. It is the timing between peruods that has me concerned. It sound slike PCOS and you need to see a dr for a proper diagnosis.

My amazing SIl just found out she was pregnant after 18 months of trying and just days before she was scheduled o start clomid.

RachelH. December 15, 2011 at 7:54 pm

It took me 8 months to get pregnant with my first baby, and about 8 seconds to get pregnant with my second baby. Sometimes, our bodies just don’t make sense. Try drinking red raspberry leaf tea to get your cycles more regular. It worked for me!

Jessica December 15, 2011 at 9:50 pm

thanks rachel! i will try that!! : )

ashley December 16, 2011 at 10:45 am

While it feels like forever when trying, 5 months isn’t overly long. We are in the exact same boat…we’ve been trying for 5 months and I have irregular mentsrual cycles and I finally visited my doctor yesterday about this and was diagnosed with PCOS. She’s prescribed me medication to hopefully help regulate my cycle and to assist with getting pregnant. Definitely visit your doctor to talk about you cycle…that would be the best first step. Try not to stress, it won’t help conceiving either.

Good luck!

Jessica December 16, 2011 at 1:55 pm

hey ashley! another commenter mentioned PCOS. i am really hoping that is not as issue because i used to be more regular, but since starting to try i’ve become more irregular. it may just be my dumb self being too anxious about getting pregnant… i don’t know. but if it persists i will definitely go to my doctor and look into this.

let me know if this works for you! email me at jessicagallas@alumni.cedarville.edu because if this is my issue, i’d really like to know if the medication works!

Rebecca December 17, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Five months is not that long to be trying, it’s perfectly normal, but I know how you feel. Every month your period comes its like a slap in the face. My husband and I tried for almost 2 years before getting pregnant, although 7 months of that he was deployed, so that doesn’t really count. And everyone around me was getting pregnant too, even people on freaking birth control! Don’t get discouraged, it will happen for you too.

Natalie December 17, 2011 at 3:46 pm

It took my husband and I a year and a half to conceive our daughter, and yup, it turned out I was diagnosed with PCOS as well. Naturally, in the middle of trying to conceive (before we knew I had PCOS), suddenly every other woman around me at work, etc., was pregnant. It was horrible and frustrating and every time someone told me, “Oh, tee hee, just keep trying and it’ll happen,” I wanted to punch them. Obviously we HAD been trying, but it wasn’t happening.

The very first cycle my doctor put me on Metformin and Clomid, BAM, pregnant! I wasn’t expecting it to work so fast. So there is hope! Visit your doctor and see what he/she says and mentally punch everyone else who doesn’t understand what you’re going through, it helps. Good luck :)

Jessica December 19, 2011 at 3:02 pm

hahahaha i love this. i did want to punch a lot of people in the face. this is the best advice i’ve heard yet.

Jessica December 15, 2011 at 1:44 pm

You will get there. My cousin had been trying for almost 10 years to have a baby. they were having many issues with conceiving. Well after many disappointments with losses, they just welcomed in a baby girl this past Dec 8th. She was 22in. 9lbs 8oz.
It never hurts to get checked out so that you can see if there are any issues.
It will happen for you. Just try to keep positive.

**IN NEED*

It’s 9 days until Christmas and although I’ve had “some” help I am still concerned with everything else due (past due) or needed. My husband is still between jobs and we really could use some help.
The things I could use or need are:

Grocery gift cards (preferably from either Walmart, Meijer, or Save-A-Lot), Gas cards, Any other gift cards we could use toward purchasing Christmas gifts, and Tracfone minutes cards. Monetary help would also be fantastic so I can pay on past due bills. Any help would be appreciated though.

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

well…this is an amazing site…

my husband has not had sufficient work for the past 3 years. (he was a real estate appraiser…and well, there is now no work!) he has taken everything that comes his way. i teach violin from my home and writing at homeschool co-ops…however, we just barely pay our bills. i am 7 1/2 months pregnant, and while i feel we are ok with the coming baby, we have nothing to give our 2 children this christmas. this feels petty…other folks have real needs. this is extra. gifts. we have a 5 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. any help towards a gift for each of them would be incredible.

Randi December 16, 2011 at 10:26 am

*in need*
We are in need, we have 3 kids 9 yr old boy, 4yr old boy and a 13day old little girl. I was really sick the last month of my pregnancy and had to take maternity leave early, and she was also 2 weeks early, so being out of work early then we expected hasn’t help any. My soon to be husband, works two jobs but we are so behind in bills that I don’t even know if we will have a place to live as of the first of the month, because we haven’t been able to pay our rent for Dec yet. We have about 50 dollars in gift cards from our baby shower we are going to use for Christmas presents, but what we really need is a a way to pay rent. I’m not good at asking for help, but if anyone could do anything for us it would be so amazing and wonderful. Thank you for making this form on your site Amanda, its amazing to see all the good in people, and thank you all for listening to part of our problems, and for those who take the omen to help those in need thank you too. I hope in a few months we will be caught up, and then we can pay foward too someone else.

MODG December 17, 2011 at 10:16 am

Hi Jessica,
I’ve found that people have had the most success here asking for things in other ways that would take the pressure off of you financially. For example, toys for your kids (so you have more money for rent) grocery gift cards (so you can put that money towards rent). Etc. It’s easier for people to help when they have something to give. Is there any other way we can help?

jessica December 17, 2011 at 11:39 am

Yes, grocery gift cards would help out, or toys, so we could use the gift card we have for food. Anything you have suggested would help. We have a walmart, albertsons, a target and a kmart and we live in Wyoming if anyone is near that would like to help. Thank you Amanda :)

Dana December 19, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Have you tried contacting local charities and non-profit organizations?
Also you could try http://www.svdpusa.org/
I wish I could do more than just offer advice

Darlene N December 16, 2011 at 3:02 pm

I am writing to you on behalf of myself and my 2 grandchildren that I am raising. My husband and I are having to adopt our 2 grandchildren, Drake 9, and Jaden (girl) almost 8. We are struggling now because they have stopped our foster care pay for some red tape. We are trying, my husband works, but hours are cut (he drives truck). we can’t get help because he gets a per diem for his expenses and DHS counts it as income.

My son is passed away and their mother was abusing drugs and abandoned the kids – she signed off rights to us so she wouldn’t have to pay support. I love having my grandkids with me, but I gotta be honest, It is a struggle.

I cannot work due to a health issue (Sarcoidosis & undiagnosed sjogren”s syndrome) and keeping up with kids. I stay exhausted.

I don’t even know what to ask for at this point. I hate asking for money, we need to come up with $400 each before the end of the year, and for Christmas, I have some stuff, but not a lot. All my grandson wanted was a DSI and of course, that was out of the question. I also have a daughter and another new baby 8 months old that I try to help as she has diabetes and has a difficult time with bursitis(crazy at 24).

Thank you for letting me vent my problems. I got your email address from a friend of my daughters that has received some help and is so grateful for your assistance. I will gladly pay it forward when I am able. I do have a lot of romance books that I could donate at this time.

Have a Very Merry Christmas! and Thank you for any assistance!

*IN NEED*
Ok..I’ve been reading this site for a couple days now..and totally wishing I had stuff to give..and debating whether or not to post my need. Obviously the debate is over..
Anyway..I am in major financial distress. I was injured at work almost 4 years ago..and as time has gone by..I am progressively getting worse.. to the point where I need a brain MRI to test for MS..not to mention other tests just to figure out exactly what is wrong. I can’t work..as I am in pain all day long. My money has run out..and at the end of the month I lose my apartment. I’m lucky..I have wonderful parents who are going to take me in. I also have a wonderful ex boyfriend who has helped me buy presents for my daughter for Christmas. She’s not his child either..but he loves her and would never let her go through Christmas with nothing. I was married to her father for 10 years..but left him 2 years ago since he was a manipulative so and so. But I digress…I have a whole ton of debt that I can’t pay, and a car that keeps needing repair. Right now my car really needs tires. It’s painful for me to drive..and actually makes me more nervous driving knowing that I need those tires. I was able to buy my daughter a winter jacket, snow pants, gloves and a hat, but she still needs snow boots. I was hoping her father would get them, but he shows no signs of doing so. And as petty as it sounds..I have a cat that I am going to run out of food for soon. I’ve had him for 5 years and it would break my heart and my daughter’s heart to have to find a new home for him.The only way I make money is by selling things on ebay..and even that doesn’t make me much. (plus the damn battery on my comp needs to be replaced so it keeps messing up). Anyway..anyone that can help with anything..I would greatly appreciate it. And if you feel my need is not as great as others..I understand that too. I’ve never had money problems like I do now..and have always been able to help friends and family that needed it. Once I’m back on my feet..I will continue to help..especially if this site is still going! Thank you and hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!

MODG December 17, 2011 at 10:12 am

**To Give**

I’m looking for someone due with a baby girl in March, April or May. I am having my daughter late January and would like to find someone that I can send my daughters clothes to when she outgrows them. If you live in Wisconsin it would be a plus for me so shipping to you isn’t as expensive.

Also if anyone needs boxed foods please let me know. I received two gift cards for presents this Christmas to a local store but the people that i got them from do not realize I have food stamps so I am willing to buy the food and ship it to you. You give me a list of what you would like, I buy it and ship it to you. I will include the receipt so you know that I just bought it and that it is fresh. Also like above, If you live in Wisconsin that is a plus for me. I would also be willing to trade, you buy me diapers I buy you food.

** TO GIVE**

My fiance and I decided that we are going to go through the kids toys (because they have out grown most) and put them away in storage but if there is anyone willing to pay the shipping I would love to ship them out to someone. I wish I was in the position to pay the shipping myself but sadly I’m not. Even if one person wants to pay to send them to another! They are all gently loved and in good condition!

(Will take pictures if anyone is interested (: )

I live in western Oklahoma, and I would love to help someone out in any way I can. I have lots to give, but I can’t afford to ship many things to help out. If you are in Oklahoma and need help, especially in western OK, let me know how I can help. I have baby stuff, toys, mens and womens clothes, household items, etc. I can arrange a meeting, or possibly deliver if need be.

**IN NEED**

I posted earlier and it looks like my post was deleted so I am reposting. We are a family of 3, our daughter is 13 months old. My husband is the only one working and he works at a restaurant so it’s really slow right now and he’s not bring home much money at all and what he does it’s going to bills, we are not even paying entire bills, just $20 on a few to keep things from collections. I know my daughter doesn’t understand Christmas or presents but she is in need of some things, winter clothes, warm pj’s, snow boots (we live in Denver Colorado) and we are in need of groceries. I have been interviewing for jobs but when and if I get a job, I don’t even have dress clothes that fit because of my pregnancy and weight gain.
Last year at this time I was on maternity leave (Lost job in July of this year) and we didn’t have a Christmas last year either, new baby, two surgeries in December for me and baby was in the nicu for a week so everything went to medical bills and medicines.
Im sorry for rambling, I am asking for anything that can help our family…giftcards for groceries/gas/clothes/presents or anything really.
And also, most importantly we need prayers….we need strength and faith.

Thank you

Lynn December 17, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I could use a breast pump if you still have it to donate. I got one 7 years ago when i was pregnant with my son. I am currently expecting and due January 24th. I took it apart today and found mold behind the face plate on mine. I can not afford to buy a new one I was only planning on coming up with the money to buy new tubing for my old one.

TIP: Not sure if anyone here is familiar with Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/), but it’s awesome. If you’re in need or have things to donate, I highly recommend you check to see if there’s a network in your area (I’m rural and there’s one here). I’ve gotten rid of a lot of stuff via Freecycle (it’s great bc the person comes to pick it up), some to families very much in need. And there’s always a TON of baby stuff on there – even things like formula coupons and unopened baby food in a flavor someone’s kid didn’t like. Definitely check it out.

*TO GIVE* I also have tons of canned veggies (green beans, corn, beans) and tomatoes if someone can use them. We use what we can but still have a ton left. I was thinking of donating to the Church but they only take things on certain days and times, both of which I’m at work for, and since I’ve been helped from this site (and one other) I want to give y’all first dibs. Boxes of cereal too (Frosted mini-wheat and Honey Bunches of Oats….I think) Just let me know at mishel79@hotmail.com. Again, it’s not nearly as much as what was done for me but I want to pay it foward as best I can right now: a little at a time. Merry Christmas y’all!

I know that it’s not a necessity, but I have a baby boys bedding set that has never been used. It’s made by Kidsline and it’s the Cambridge line, so it has boats and cars and stuff on it. It includes the bumpers, fitted sheet, diaper stacker, quilt, and maybe something else…I don’t remember. I bought it for my sons room but never used it. Would be great for a little boy’s room. Please e-mail me at ktnluvl@yahoo.com if interested.

IN NEED…..

Hello, my family is in need this Christmas because we have a young daughter and my wife lost her job earlier this year and hasn’t been able to get anything. I am the only income and I work on commission and not making enough to support us 3. Savings were used for her maternity leave last winter and we are struggling pretty bad. I want to get our daughter a gift or some new clothes/shoes but just don’t think it will happen…. hoping someone can help us and in the future when we can, we will help others.
Thank you Happy Holidays

***In emergency NEED***

My family is in serious need of some generous hearts. I often try to give and this time I need to ask for help. We have gotten into a financial bind and have fallen behind on our rent. I had an agreement with our Property manager and was making payments. She says her superiors said that she had to file with the courts for the full amount of rent we owe. I did not receive the notice of the hearing until the day of the hearing. She then told me I did not need to be present at the hearing which I have since been told by an attourney is not the case, due to me not being there they found in favour of the rental company by default. I was not told I had 10 days to appeal my case. Next thing I know we get a legal notice from the local constable that we have to pay what we owe by noon on the 2nd of January or we will be forcably removed from our home.
I have 3 children (2 with special needs) and a baby that could come any time in the next 5 weeks. I have had a high risk pregnancy with a lot of medical costs. I can come up with part of what is owed and only needed a little more time to have the full amount but the rental company refuses to allow me an extra two weeks.
If there is anyone out there who is in a situation to help our family so we are not homeless come January 2nd I can’t tell you what it would mean to me. Once I have this particular issue taken care of I will be in a position to give back to others in need, I just don’t have time in this situation to come up with the funding needed in the time given.
Even the smallest amount would be of help if its able to be given.
I know this is a lot to ask of strangers and if I were in a position to help someone in my situation I would.
I’ve let my family down and now they are facing having no home…. I cannot tell you how devestating this is.
Please if you have it in your heart and you have the means any help you can give would keep 3 children from losing their home.
I can be reached at DanaErin79@live.com or DanaErin79@gmail.com

Thank you

Dana December 19, 2011 at 12:32 pm

*** TO GIVE***

Toys, toys, toys. My son and I are currently working his way through his toys and selecting several toys every day to donate to another child in need. The toys we are donating are all sorts of gently used (and all parts are accounted for) toys. We’ve got tons of stuffed animals. Some robots. Toy Story toys. Cars. Trucks. Etc.

If you are in need of toys for your child, let me know. These are all truly well cared for toys AND it would help me teach my son about sharing with those who are in need. Plus, I’d far rather send it to someone I know will enjoy and love it than donate it to Salvation Army or another store.

You can emal me at cynericson at gmail dot com

Karrie Garcia December 22, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Hello,

Do you still have the Toy Story and Cars toys available?? My 2 year old is obsessed with them at the moment. :)

Cyn December 27, 2011 at 3:10 pm

Karrie,

I’m sorry, but we’re pretty tapped out on Toy Story toys (someone claimed them right before Christmas). The only thing we do have left that I don’t think my son would miss is a large stuffed buzz doll. The rest of our toy story stuff has been worked over pretty good and I can’t really call it “gently used” anymore.

Let me look around and see what we have that is Cars that is in good shape.

I do, however, still have a ton of stuffed animals. Everything from Dr. Seuss to Pooh. We seem to collect 5-10 stuffed animals every year in gifts/presents.

Here’s my email (easier to reach me as I don’t always come back here to look around) cynericson at gmail dot com.

Shana December 30, 2011 at 10:27 am

Karrie – We have a whole set of Toy Story toys – I know this is after Christmas, but please let me know if you’d like them….

**IN NEED (still)**

First I want to thank you to those who have helped with my diabetic meds and supplies and to those who helped me with Christmas. I won’t forget, and neither will my daughters.

Unfortunately we are still in need. It’s really bad right now and all other resources have been exhausted. My husband should find out soon (new info since last time I posted) if he has a job. We are praying he gets it. In the meantime the things we STILL could use or need are Grocery gift cards, Gas cards, Tracfone minutes cards (which the prepaid pin numbers could just be emailed to me), and any monetary help to pay on past due bills (I do have a paypal). We are really stuck and need more help. I apologize for seeming ‘too needy’. We have done everything within our means and have not taken advantage of any organization or anyone by giving false information. This is hard for me to post, and keep posting, but it is seriously our only hope at this stage. Please help. Thank you…

My email is teashy_ann@yahoo.com

Please be safe and have a very Merry Christmas

PatriciaCurry December 21, 2011 at 11:36 am

Other help could be for clothes for my daughters. My oldest wears woman’s sz 20-22 pant, xl shirt. She likes graphic Ts and “scene” type clothes. My youngest could use pants ,shirts sz 5t – 6t, and shoes sz 6 – 7. Also, if you have any Playstation I games that you don’t use anymore that would be great. My oldest daughter got it from an Aunt and it has no memory card and only a few games. We have no other gaming systems.

CarmenPink December 21, 2011 at 12:34 pm

I just WANA say what an inspiration this is to see! Such is a Happy Holiday with giving and helping those in need! :) ) I wish I could offer support or donation but I unfortunately am ‘needy’ as well. I wont be asking for anything, but offering my kind words to those of you who are in need and to those of you who are able to help.

Times are tough, but keep hope alive. Love your families there is ALWAYS a light at the end of the tunnel, its just important to know that some tunnels are longer than others.
xoxo

PatriciaCurry December 21, 2011 at 1:50 pm

Thank you for your kind words Carmen. Have a very Merry Christmas and my prayers to you for your situation. I pray it will improve for you. God Bless

***in need*** and ***Thank You***
I am in awe of the generosity of 2 donors. I have been able to pay my adoption fee’s for my 7 and 9 yr old grandchildren. (see earlier post)
I am embarassed to ask for more, but if anyone has any grocery cards to donate it would be deeply appreciated. with the switch from foster care to adoption there is a 6 – 8 week lag on kids pay or I wouldn’t even ask.

~IN NEED~ and ~Thanks~

~Original Post~
My husband and I have a 6 month old son who has outgrown his infant seat. We had been saving money to buy him a convertible one for Christmas but due to unseen things, we had to use all the savings for bills. So now we have nothing in savings and our son is too big to be in his carrier safely. Im sitting here crying because I just dont know what to do anymore. I feel like the biggest failure and I just want to give up! I hope there is an angel looking out for us tonight.

~Thanks~
Thank you to my wonderful angel who has helped us with what they could do.

~Still In Need~
Im still in need of a little more help to get the car seat. If anyone is willing to help us out with gift cards to Target, that would be wonderful. My son is almost 26 inches long and his infant carrier is made to go to 22 inches! This is a huge need and I dont have the money to put out to get it. Please contact me if you can help.

~EDIT~

Length on car seat in 25 inches not 22 inches. Typing too fast and hit 2 instead of 5

Cyn December 27, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Have you tried dialing 2-1-1 on your phone? I think alot of counties offer this as a connection to your local United Way and they can let you know of any resources that can help you get a free carseat.

If that doesn’t work, email me at cynericson at gmail dot com and I’ll see if there is any way I can help.

~Sad and Broke~ December 27, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Cyn,

Thanks. I sent you an email. I have tried 211 and everything around here and no one has any to help us with right now.

jessica December 30, 2011 at 2:55 pm

emailing you!!

~Sad and Broke~ January 10, 2012 at 2:34 pm

~~UPDATE~~

Thank you everyone who helped us out. Our little one is now in his new car seat!!!! If it wasnt for you, we would be carrying around his infant carrier with a child who has outgrown it!

For Jen, and all the others helping people, to let you know you are appreciated.

It was a few days before Christmas and all was distraught.
Nary a present beneath the tree, or even bought.
When what to my wonderous imagination did apprear
but a NICE giftcard, there’s now nothing to fear.

I knew in a moment, who was my St Nick!
A lil ole Grandma so lively and quick,
off to Walmart I will be
to get gifts to put under the tree.

On Christmas, Ill hear the Twinkling of little feet
as they dash to the tree for St Nickolas’ treats.

Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Big Hug!!!

Thank you, Darlene

Jill K December 23, 2011 at 11:55 am

I just want to say thank you to everyone that has helped and offered to help our family. We are truly blessed.
However, I am in more need this morning. We just had a bad storm here in Denver and I was driving this morning and rear ended someone on the icy roads. My truck is totalled and I am in some pain. I know have a $500 deductible to pay and a $130 ticket. This is our only vehicle and there is no way we can take the bus with the baby because it is currently 9 degrees right now. I know it’s a lot but I am hoping someone could possibly help….I don’t know what to do. I am in tears.

**IN NEED**

Wow, I have actually been watching this link for awhile waiting until I could help someone else, this is so amazing!! Unfortunately today things put us in need. I missed a couple payments on some old court stuff in order to save and provide a better Christmas for my daughter, well this led to my next paycheck starting my garnishment totaling of $1,300. The garnishment is only leaving me with 435 per pay period for living cost, 500 cut per month! My rent is more than that, and not to mention daycare which has to be paid in order to work!! Right now the world is spinning!!! Typically I make ends meet with a little play money this will not be the case for the next few monthes :( I am scared I will not even be able to buy toilet paper and food for the next couple now. I do get WIC for my daughter and I now since becoming pregnant, so at least I have the basics. I am not a “single mom” I do have a boyfriend, but I pay most of the bills. I plan on turning off my Comcast cable, but need internet for school, and my cell phone is my only line I have not even begun to think how I will do that! I just feel completely overwhelmed and a little scared right now. I am due in May and wish I was not in these circumstances at such of what is suppose to be an amazing time. I am not really sure what I am asking for, this may be more of a vent. I am just really worried and can’t sleep! Thanks for anything you can do or say to calm my nerves right now :)

Lynn, I don’t know of too many people who couldn’t use a few groceries. But, I am reading these post and see Rose right above you. Maybe she would like the help. It sounds like she could use a little help. I would ask for myself, however she seems to be more in need than I am…..

Jolene December 26, 2011 at 11:28 pm

Hello!
I don’t know if this is still going but thought it’d be worth a shot! I’m pregnant with my third baby due in February and unfortunately dont qualify for medicaid only $50 over the limit and our deductible is $3000 and we are going to have to pay that twice since it ends in December! We sold all our baby items from our previously kids to help pay bills. If anyone has any used baby items that wouldn’t be too costly to ship it would help us out much! We received plenty of diapers and wipes for Christmas but just don’t have a stroller, carseat, or any of those items. I know this is a lot to ask for but it doesn’t hurt to try! I also plan on Breastfeeding/pumping if anyone has a used pump. I think this is such a great thing and hope it goes year round! God bless all of you!! I know I can’t give much but any families in need of prayer I can certainly do!!

**In Need**
I have been watching for some time now and have been Very nervous about posting because I know there are many people with bigger needs, but I dont know where else to go! I have a small family (me,my husband,3yrson,6m baby girl) I am always the person to give and hate to ask for help,I feel like I could have helped so many people here with baby items but have already sold all of them to other mommys in need. Our biggest need is food or maybe help with bills if there is someway we could work that out.My husband got laid off work when my son was a baby and jobs since then have been hard to find and havent lasted long just because they didnt need him,we are on unemployment but 200 a wk just doesnt do it,heck our lightbill is more then that…not to mention all our other bills,we have foodstamps and no matter how hard we try to make them last theres always atleast a week we are ‘going hungry’ I always put my kids 1st so they are good on clothes ect. And thankfully they had a good Christmas, although we were not able to buy not 1 single gift.I feel like I have rambled on about to much,I apologize.Theres just so much going on I dont know where to turn!! I really feel selfish to ask this but ever since I had my daughter I have been making it day to day with only 1 pair of pants if anyone can help me with that? Just 1 extra pair would be amazing!

**IN NEED STILL-PLEASE HELP**

We are very grateful and thankful to have received help for Christmas. Thank you to those of you who have helped us have an awesome Christmas for our daughters!

Unfortunately we are STILL in need. If you can, please help! We could still use monetary help to get caught up on bills, grocery cards, gas cards, and tracfone minutes cards. My husband is still waiting to hear if he got the job he applied for but in the meantime we are way behind on everything. Just making it paycheck to paycheck (unemployment every 2 weeks) with gas in the truck is like russian roulette. We keep having to borrow money before each check comes. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone help. Thank you so very much.

(IN NEED) Rent/Daycare tuition December 29, 2011 at 4:24 pm

So we got through Christmas. Whew! But I’m now facing another problem. Both my rent ($800) and daughter’s day care tuition ($540) are due next week. I have $430 in my bank account. I get paid tomorrow, however, what I’m getting paid combined with what I have in the bank is only enough to cover one or the other. This isn’t even including bills for the month. I’m not sure what anyone can do to help my 15-month old daughter and I, but we’re desperate!

**IN NEED**
Hi everyone, I am writing this for my cousin who doesn’t have a computer anymore. She is a single mom now since her BF left her. She is 19 years old and working as much as possible just to afford rent. I am in my early 20s and am not in a financial place where I can afford to help her. I’m not her size so I can’t give her any clothes of my own.
She is a waitress and needs new jeans to wear to work. She won’t admit it, but she needs some new long sleeve shirts as well. She lives in the mountainous region of our state and it’s getting too cold up there.
She is pretty small, size 2/4 in younger brands like AE..Size XS or S tops.
If anyone has anything to donate, please let me know.

(reposting from forum)

Like most families on here we live paycheck to paycheck. My hubby is the only one that works. I am unable to find a job. We have always been okay paying all our bills. Somehow this month it all went downhill. We just cant make ends meet. I am in desperate need for someone to please help us to get enough money to pay our rent. When we first wrote our check for rent we had enough money to cover it. Then we had to pay medical bills for our one year old which I still owe on too. I am not worried about Christmas for us or for her. She will get enough from other family members. If anyone can do anything for me I will greatly appreciate it. Thank you for reading.

Thanks MODG.

please email me at l.m.c.082010 at gmail dot com

Update..We have covered our rent but that left us short on money for gas and groceries. The only store around us is Walmart.

~IN NEED~

I have received lots of help on here just in the last month and I am now writing for my sister. She doesnt have internet right because money has been very tight for them since her husband lost his job. They have 2 children (6 and 4) and are struggling to make ends meet. They have fallen behind on their phone bill, car payment and now rent. They have looked into getting help but my sister makes just a little over the max. If there is anyone out there that can help them, please email me. She doesnt know that her husband has asked me to post on here after seeing the amount of help I got for my little guy.

hsorensen12@yahoo.com

Heather January 5, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Is there anyone out there that can help them out even just a little bit?? Visa gift cards would be the best, but Walmart or Target gift cards would help, since they can use those for food and home supplies. Im hoping that there are a few angels out there that could help them out. Please email me and let me know

Heather January 6, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Anyone?? The are living on ramen, mac n cheese and pb&j sandwiches now. They had enough money to pay rent, but thats almost everything they have until the end of the month!

Heather January 12, 2012 at 5:17 pm

I guess since Christmas is over no one gives a crap anymore. My nephew is now living with his grandparents in Colorado away from everyone because my sister isnt able to food him. My niece is in school and gets help with meals from there. My sister and brother in law are living on pb&j sandwiches everyday. I wish I would have asked for help during Christmas when people were always helping others.

Heather January 12, 2012 at 9:51 pm

I feel the need to apologize for my vent on my last post. I know that there are people out on here that are willing to help with more then just money. It has just hit me that my nephew isnt here for the time being and it hit me hard. Again im sorry. I know that my niece could use some clothes and dolls. I know my sister could use clothes as well. My niece is a size 6 in girls for pants and xs/s for shirts. As for my sister, I will have to find out. Please message me if you have any clothes that could help them out.

Heather,

I would love to help your sister, but we got hit with some big bills after the holidays (apparently our water line has a leak and we used over 400 gallons of water in 3 days… huh?).

Anywho, will touch base when funds aren’t so tight to see what I can do to help. Sorry I can’t help more now.

Heather January 25, 2012 at 2:29 pm

Thanks Cyn I hope to hear from you sometime in the near future. Hopefully things get sorted out on your end. Thats crazy!!

Ashley Winters January 4, 2012 at 9:33 pm

[4:16:56 PM] Ashley Winters: Need: Help a family
My sister in law has a medically fragile baby who has a ventilator and many special needs. She adopted him after his biological mother died. Shortly after adopting him, her husband left her for another woman. Taking care of her son is a 24/7 job. She has no way of making a living. She survives on SSI and child support. She has 5 kids altogether, and they struggle every step of the way. To prevent them from being evicted, I gave them $1200.00 for rent about 6 months ago. Now, her van which she uses to transport her medically fragile son is broke down. In order to fix it, she needs $2900.00. I am not expecting to raise all of that, but I want to help her out so badly, and I just don’t have the money. The most I can come up with is $500 as my family is struggling to make it as well. If you are able to provide payment you can send it to Fred’s Transmission at 4410 Lincoln Way East
Mishawaka, IN 46544 or call 574 255 3970. Even if you can not offer any financial assistance, I ask that you can offer your prayers. i know that God can do all things, and when we pray things happen. Please pray for my sister in law and her family. Thank you. If you wish to contact me my email is awentzel271@hotmail.com

**IN NEED**

My brother was tragically killed in a car accident on Dec. 23, 2011. http://www.news-record.com/content/2011/12/24/article/julian_man_killed_when_deer_strikes_2_vehicles. His fiance was badly injured and is still in critical condition, and his 2-year old son was in a car behind them with his grandmother when the accident occurred. My brother’s fiance was a stay at home mother with no income, and now will have tremendous medical bills as well as having to solely take care of a 2-year old. We are taking donations to help my nephew with any future care or education needs, and if you would like to help, you can make a donation to the Riley Clapp-Garrett Education Fund at 5131 Garrett Farm Lane, Julian, NC 27283. Any amount will help, and if you can not give monetarily, please pray for our families healing and for Riley’s future.

Thank you so much for any donations or help that you can give.

Heather January 5, 2012 at 11:51 am

Unfortunately we are in much need still. Everything is past due, we never make it paycheck to paycheck with gas for the truck and groceries. We really could use some help.

Coming up on January 23rd we have to take our 4 year old daughter to her Pediatric Orthopedic. She currently has 4 specialists that we take her too (Pediatric Orthopedic, Pediatric Cardiologist, Pediatric Optometrist and Geneticist). It’s a 4 hour trip one way and we really could use some gas money for the trip down and back. If you can give anything I would surely appreciate it. Without the help I think we may need to cancel her appt. Please help.

NEED:
Hello my name is Alina. I am a stay at home mother of 4 children. Here is the situation. My husband was out of work most of October. So in short we got way behind in every one of our bills. He got back to work but we go so far behind we cannot get out. We had to do the holidays and such which took alot of what we had. Then of course Christmas for 4 children. Their ages are 16, 14, 12 and 4 so things were ultimately very expensive. We were not able to get them much but we got them what we could. The day before new years we ended up losing our satalite, things got mixed up in phone calls cause I had gotten an extension but it wasnt put into the computer, so they shut it off. Ok the satalite we can live without no problem but then we ran out of propane for heat and had to put a few other bills off again to buy it since they have a minimum of 100 gallons purchase. So now I sit here with 3 more shut off notices and no way really to pay them. I have already used any extensions that I can get and our county offices are out of funds already this year to help out. Also the other agencies like salvation army here cannot help. I am very muxch at a loss and need about $600 to hold of the shut offs until we get our taxes back next month. I have looked into loans, even payday ones, but we do not have a bank account and have bad credit. So those are not an option either. Now I am left with the kindness of others to rely on. These days there are not usually too many people out there that can help as everybody seems to be in needs as well. But I hope there are some that can help. Please feel free to contact me at Sable24x7@yahoo.com. That is also my paypal email. I use the debit card from them to pay alot of my stuff cause I do a little side work online ( which is not going well either). Please help anybody I am desperate now. Anything would be more than I have. Thank you so very much for letting me tell my story.

Alina Recore January 13, 2012 at 2:45 pm

I just wanted to add a few things after looking over more of the site. I wish I had some pictures to send in of my beautiful family but actually my computer stopped working a week before christmas. I am just on my husbands laptop now and we dont have any pics on here and lost everything on my other computer when it died. I am actually having trouble typing now cause the tears are flowing. There were so many people that you have helped and the stories are sad and beautiful at the same time. My story is sad yes but not as bad as some so I see. But there are a few things I forgot to mention in my post. My 16 year old is also pregnant and due in April. I am happy about this as she has been with the same guy for almost 2 years and for Christmas he proposed to her. They are living here with us so he can do some college courses and she is finishing high school. Also my youngest 2 children are disabled. One I get the SSI for which pays our rent but the other just got dianosed so I still have to go through the process of SSI to get him started. The 12 year old is Bi-polar and ADHD and the 4 year old has ow been diagnoses with Oppositional Defient Disorder and ADHD. We have a long road ahead of us with both of them. We have no family near us to help and my mother in-law has wired us all she can recently. We have no family here cause 2 years ago we picked up and moved 1300 miles from where we grew up. For quite some time it was better here but then my husband ended up out of work for a bit and we got behind badly. My husbands birthday was actually just last wekk and we couldnt even afford to do anything or go anywhere for it. But he and I are old enough not to really care just the kids were disappointed cause my birthday was just in November and we didn’t do anything then either since we knew we would be so short for the holidays. Anyway I would love to get ahead on things or even have extra to go out but just the bills being caught up is ok with me. I just hope for some kind of something. My kids deserve more than we have been able to give them lately.

**In Need**

First, I wrote on this board during Christmas, and was blown away when people I didn’t even know sent my son an incredible Christmas. Unfortunately, things have gotten worse around here.

I’m a single mom, and I recently moved from a domestic violence shelter to our apartment. I just started working full time, but I only have me to rely on. I don’t have family, or really any friends around here. I am thankful for my job, but it doesn’t go very far. After Christmas, my car died, and needed a lot of repairs. I also had some unexpected medical bills, and so even though I was making it, I’m not anymore. I’ve gotten pretty creative with my bills, but I realized this weekend that buying groceries is going to be awfully tricky this month.

I feel like a jerk asking for help when I’ve already asked for so much. But I just can’t stand the thought of not doing everything I can to take care of my son. So, I guess if anyone can help, my email is rmbaker05@gmail.com.

****IN NEED*****

On Sunday night my step sister commited suicide. She shot herself, leaving behind a five year old son with no father. My family has taken on the cremation and funeral costs. We dont have the money and are taking any donations we can get. Even donations of boys clothing, toys, gift card, etc. There are a lot of unexpected costs and my family is struggling. Please email me at Rinamarie03@hotmail.com if you can do anything to help. I appreciate it so much.

Thank you.

In Need

Hi all, I am a single mom and I lost my job at the end of november. I finally started receiving unemployment but unfortunately it’s not even close to enough to help pay my bills. I have applied for over 30 jobs in the past week alone and have yet to receive any calls for interviews.. I have a 385.00 car payment due on the 25th, a 80.00 insurance payment due on the 27th, and a 750.00 rent payment due by the 3rd. My unemployment is 214.00 a week. I should be able to cover my car and insurance but that will leave little to no money for anything like gas or groceries. If anyone has any spare Grocery gift cards (kroger, albertsons, safeway, trader joes, whole foods, anything…) they would be greatly appreciated. As would gas cards.. I have no idea how I am going to make it through the end of this month or how I am going to keep the roof over our heads in february.. everything just seems a bit hopeless right now.

**To Give** maybe?

Hello, I don’t really have anything I can offer at the time except for maybe a little advice. I’ve read on here that a lot of people are at a point of almost losing their homes or electricity. I sat in a meeting at work today with some representatives from the Salvation Army. I learned in some areas they have emergency assitance programs which are designed to help provide aid to families in temporary financial crisises and they help with things like the rent and utility bills. When I asked what needs to be done to get that kind of help, they said all you have to do is ask. I wish I had more to offer than this little piece of advice, but it’s all I have for the time being. I hope it helps someone out there.

IN NEED

I was on here for Christmas and I got some GREAT responses but now this is totally something unexpected. My Fiancee admitted to cheating on me. As anyone would (since it wasnt the first time) i took my girls (2yrs and 10 months) and left. We are at such a loss. We are staying with my aunt but she cant afford to support us. My Assistance case is in the process of being transferred and I feel like I’m just caught in the middle of my world crumbling. I was a stay at home mom so I had no income and no money to ‘take’ from him. He refuses to help support our children until I can get on our feet and I feel so lost, confused, and like I’m running in circles. For now we’re getting some foodstamps but our biggest battle is buying Harmony (2 yrs) her pulls up (she is alllmost potty trained) and my 10 month old Ava her diapers and wipes. I have nothing to contribute to the utilities we use but right now my focus is on them. If anyone could help us in any way even if just someone to email with that’s been through this. I’m having a tough time coping. Thank you so much.

2 time prego! February 3, 2012 at 1:37 am

I am the proud mom of a 7 month old (who has just started teething..eek) annnnndd have just found out I’m pregnant again! My husband and I are VERY excited but very scared outta of our minds at the same time! What are we going to do with TWO!? We are living with my parents for the mean time because he just graduated and I am still in the process of getting my degree and we are still trying to get on our feet. We are in a TON of school debt, and trying to save for a house so if anyone has any cute maternity clothes they would like to donate it would be a tremendous help!!! My first pregnancy the bulk part of me being big was in the winter so I got away with just wearing jackets and big sweaters but now I moved to the very tip of Texas (by South Padre Island) and it is H.O.T. here…like all the time hot. So I can’t get away with my same prego wardrobe. If anyone can help with anything please message me. Thanks so much!!!

***IN NEED***
Okay, so this isn’t really for me. Well, kind of, but not really. I’m staying with friends right now, while my significant other is deployed. Their names are Kathy and Jeff, and they are wonderful. All three of us are completely tapped, and my SO actually sends me a little bit of money just so we can buy groceries (btw I’m a coupon-clipping fool), but even though we shop at the commissary, we never have enough. So first of all, anything to do with groceries would be VERY much appreciated, and would make a huge difference.

Now the important stuff (it’s more important because it involves kids). Jeff’s kids live with his crazy bi-otch of an ex-wife in NC, while . She sucks up $1500 of his paycheck the first of every month (and there’s already not a lot there- the military doesn’t pay very much btw) and the kids live in clothes that are WAY too small and too tight, are stained, and they are having an awful time at school because of it. His daughter, Morgan, is ten years old and has ugly mangled feet because her mom can’t be bothered to go to payless and spend $5 on a paid of keds. We don’t even know what size she’s supposed to be, but we’re guesstimating a women’s shoe size 7. Her clothing size is supposed to be a girl’s size 14/16, but she’s wearing torn and stained everything, and it’sall way too small.

Jeff saved up to get 12 year old Byron a pair of trendy skateboarding shoes for his birthday last month, so he was over the moon about that when his crazy mother finally let him open them (after opening herself and withholding them until AFTER his birthday and making him think his dad didn’t get him anything) He’s supposed to be wearing adult size small shirts and size 16/18 pants. Right now, he’s wearing pants that stop five inches above his ankles. Yes, FIVE. He and his sister are NOT having an easy time at school, and you know how cruel kids can be.

Anything that anyone can do in order to help would mean the world to us. After bills, the three of us combines are working with $80 a month to keep this household running, and we all know how difficult that is. Thank you so much, MODG, for starting this awesome movement. Hopefully in the future we will be able to help others that are in this same situation. Thank you :)
